Can I extend my car battery life with jump-start?

Hey DUO Member, did you know that jump-starts do not extend your car battery life?

When you jump-start your car, your alternator needs to work twice as hard to supply energy to electrical systems and provide additional energy to keep the battery charged. This not only shortens your alternator’s life, but can also hurt your car’s battery if you leave it undercharged.

You are advised not to undercharge or overcharge your battery. Undercharging can cause a build-up of lead sulfate on the battery plates, and overcharging can corrode the positive battery terminals or cause damage inside the battery. Therefore, please only jump-start your flat battery when there is an emergency need.

It is recommended to service your car regularly and have its battery load-tested by our workshop to prevent mechanical problems.
